First Sale Under 1k
I kept refreshing like the number on my follower count was going to change something. Months into posting, still under a thousand. That voice in the back of my head was consistent: nobody's coming to listen, what are you even building this for?
Then the notification came in.
A sale. Less than a thousand followers, a post that barely hit 100 views.
I sat with that for a minute because it didn't line up with the story I was telling myself. The person who bought wasn't already in my audience.
The platform found them because they were searching for the exact problem my product solved, and my content was what came up. They found me before I felt ready.
The follower count was never the gate. I just thought it was because it was the only number I could see every day.
We spend so much time staring at a number that feels too small, thinking that's why nobody's buying, when really the person who needs what we have might not have found it yet. Reach matters eventually. But specificity is what gets you the first one.
I was building for an audience I didn't have yet when I should've been creating content specific enough that the right person could stop mid-scroll and go, "This is for me."
A post that tries to speak to everyone speaks to no one. One that speaks directly to the person with that specific problem at 11pm when they can't sleep, that's the one that sells.
Most people are waiting to get big enough to be discovered.
The ones making sales got specific enough to be found.
